M+P CREATIVE MARKETING INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

[Spring 2019]

Job Description:

Mom+Pop is looking for an intern to work directly with the Creative Marketing department. This is an opportunity to learn what it takes from start to finish to put out a record with an indie flair. We are a small label and everyone contributes to each process.

The Creative Intern works under the Creative Director. Daily tasks include but are not limited to mocking up creative assets for bands and the label in the adobe suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, etc), building out decks for creative campaigns, researching creative initiatives and up and coming creatives.  Must be comfortable with Adobe Suite. The internship is perfect for those interested in the intersection of art forms.

Requirements:

  • Strong desire to work in the music industry.

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative as well as work closely with a group.

  • Must have strong organizational skills and be very detail oriented.

  • Must have excellent communication skills, written and verbal.

  • Must be proficient with Photoshop/iMovie (Create gifs, post/images, resize/edit photos; Edit gifs for Instagram and Facebook with sound.)

  • Preference goes to candidates who have knowledge of the rest of Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and InDesign).

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Google Docs.  

  • Must be able to interact with people of all levels within and outside the company with poise and professionalism.

  • Professional phone and email etiquette.

  • Must be discrete and maintain absolute confidentiality as this position regularly handles sensitive information.

M+P DIGITAL MARKETING INTERN DESCRIPTION

Job Description:

Mom+Pop is looking for a few interns to work directly with the Director of Digital Marketing. This is an opportunity to learn what it takes from start to finish to put out a record with an indie flair. We are a small label and everyone contributes to each process. We will cover everything that it takes to message out a new release in the digital space. This includes: creative marketing campaigns, social media strategy, email marketing, website layout, smartlinks and more. We will also cover the streaming landscape and how we can use all of the analytical tools at our disposal to help push for additional visibility for our artists on all major streaming platforms.

The ideal person should be well organized, hard working, love music, analytical and want to learn everything they can about working within a record label. All interns must be able to receive academic credit in exchange for their unpaid internship placement and be in our Manhattan office 15-20 hours a week.

Requirements:

  • Strong desire to work in the music industry.

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative as well as work closely with a group.

  • Must have strong organizational skills and be very detail oriented.

  • Must have excellent communication skills, written and verbal.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Google Docs.

  • Familiarity with Squarespace (Write and update news posts/articles for M+P site.)

  • Knowledge of Mailchimp is a plus

  • Knowledge of Photoshop/iMovie is a plus (Create gifs, post/images, resize/edit photos; Edit gifs for Instagram and Facebook with sound.)

  • Plus if the candidate has knowledge of rest of Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and InDesign) and HTML.

Learning outcomes:

The digital marketing intern will be assigned various tasks; including helping run and monitor social media accounts, brainstorming digital marketing initiatives, keeping track of our digital accounts statistics, researching music trends, sitting in on marketing meetings with industry executives, and more.

Mom+Pop is looking for a few interns to work directly with the Marketing Team; including Marketing Managers and the Tour Marketing Coordinator. This is an opportunity to learn what it takes from start to finish to put out a record with an indie flair. We are a small label and everyone contributes.

The ideal person should be incredibly well organized, hard working, love music, and want to learn everything they can about working within a record label. All interns must be able to receive academic credit in exchange for their internship placement.

Requirements:

  • Strong desire to work in the music industry.

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative as well as work closely with a group.

  • Must have strong organizational skills and be very detail oriented.

  • Must have excellent communication skills, written and verbal.

  • Very proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Google Docs.  

  • Must be able to interact with people of all levels within and outside the company with poise and professionalism.

  • Professional phone and email etiquette.

  • Must be discrete and maintain absolute confidentiality as this position regularly handles sensitive information.

  • Not required, but a plus if the candidate has basic knowledge of Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) and iMovie/Premiere.

  • Must be able to receive academic credit for this part time internship position.

  • Must be able to assist in product mailings (lifting boxes of 5-10 lbs being shipped from office is required.)

The marketing intern will be assigned various tasks; including radio and promotional mailings, monitoring statistics on social media accounts, organizing artist press updates, maintaining and updating tour itineraries, calendars and marketing contact databases, in-office product inventory, brainstorming marketing initiatives, researching artists and music trends, sitting in on marketing meetings with industry executives, and more.

M+P ARTISTS & REPERTOIRE INTERN DESCRIPTION

[SPRING 2019]

Job Description:

Mom+Pop is currently seeking two A&R interns for the Spring 2019 semester. This is a Los Angeles based internship that is unpaid and must be for school credit. Requires a commitment of 2-3 days a week to meet the minimum internship hours.

The ideal person should be incredibly well organized, hard working, love music, and want to learn everything they can about working within a record label.

Daily Tasks:

Daily A&R Tracking

  • Digital streaming platforms (including Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Soundcloud, etc)

  • Music blogs

  • Festivals

Extensive research on new artists from blogs, streaming platforms, etc.

Staying Up-to-Date on Daily Music Trends & News

  • Intern will be responsible for sending personal responses on important and compelling music-related headlines with thorough explanations at the end of each day

Updating databases of important music industry partners (labels, managers, agents, etc) as well as producers, engineers, mixers, etc.

Learning outcomes:

To gain an overall familiarity with M+P and it’s roster.

  • Artist knowledge including band members, genre, analytics, touring, etc

  • Researching teams/partners including managers, attorneys, publicists, and agents (along with the companies they work for).

To learn the ins and outs of an independent record label.

  • Learning everyone’s role at the company and understanding the importance of each department and how they work together.

  • Sitting in on daily marketing meetings to listen in about album campaigns, timelines and future plans.

To understand the fundamentals of a band’s success.

  • Interns will learn how to use fundamental platforms used when scouting/discovering talent. This will teach researching skills and understanding an artist’s standing in the marketplace.

To (hopefully) find a fitting career path in music.

  • By interacting with our employees and building relationships, we hope for our intern(s) to find a suitable position that they find intriguing to pursue in music.
