Tom Morello released a new music video for his song “Every Step That I Take,” which features Grammy Award-winners Portugal. The Man and Chicago DJ Whethan. The video, directed by Sean Evans, uses 3D scanning to create the “broken technology vibe” that Evans thought was “a perfect look to create a world out of for ‘Every Step That I Take.’” Watch it below.
Conceptually, the video is a contemporary retelling of the wrongful execution of Swedish-American labor activist Joe Hill by a Utah firing squad — the tragic narrative that inspired much of Tom’s new collaborative album, The Atlas Underground, which LA Weekly calls “a cohesive piece of work that sounds fresh and new.”
“Revolutionary labor troubadour Joe Hill was murdered by a Utah firing squad for a crime he did not commit. They pinned a heart and crosshairs to his chest so the firing squad wouldn’t miss. His ashes were mailed to the four corners of the world and from those ashes generations of new revolutionaries continue to rise. The Atlas Underground sprang from those ashes as well and is proof that ideas, songs and struggle are bulletproof.” — Tom Morello
